In der malerischen Bildwelt von Jagoda Bednarsky (geb. 1988 in Goldberg, Polen, lebt und arbeitet in Frankfurt am Main) geht es um Fragen der Schichtung und um Ebenen der Verortung: Was ist im Bild? Was ist hinter dem Bild? Was ist vor dem Bild? Sie verwendet technisch reproduzierte Grafiken oder Fotografien aus Magazinen, Bildbänden und dem Internet als thematische und formale Ausgangspunkte. Durch Collagieren und Übermalen von Gefundenem und Erfundenem entsteht eine scheinbar zufällige und mystische Synthese ambivalenter Wirklichkeiten. Als visuelle Darstellungstechniken nutzt Bednarsky zudem Spiegelungen, serielle Wiederholungen, Doppelungen sowie Durchkreuzungen oder Vernetzungen, so dass ihre Bilder auf der Suche nach dem innewohnenden Zusammenhang von Information und Wissen eine rätselhafte auratische Stimmung entwickeln.

Die erste Monografie von Jagoda Bednarsky beinhaltet neben zahlreichen Abbildungen einen Essay von Eric-John Russell und einen lyrischen Aufsatz von Jenny Kalliokulju sowie zwei kunsthistorische Texte von Meike Behm und Elke Gruhn.

The painterly universe of Jagoda Bednarsky (b. Złotoryja, Poland, 1988; lives and works in Frankfurt am Main) revolves around questions of layering and planes of localization: What is in the picture? What is behind it? What is in front of it? Technical reproductions of graphic art or photographs from magazines, photo books, and the Internet serve as the thematic and formal basis for the artist’s creative process. By collaging and overpainting found and invented imagery, she creates seemingly haphazard and mystical syntheses of ambivalent realities. Additional techniques of visual generation Bednarsky employs include mirroring, serial iteration, doubling, crossing out, and web-like interconnection; as we seek to grasp the nexus of information and knowledge implicit in them, we are spellbound by the enigmatic aura they exude.

Jagoda Bednarsky’s first monograph includes numerous illustrations as well as a text by Eric-John Russell, a lyrical essay by Jenny Kalliokulju, and discussions of the artist’s work by the art historians Meike Behm and Elke Gruhn.
